Chin Augmentation in Westchester, NY
A small, recessed chin is a genetic condition experienced by both men and women that can make surrounding facial areas appear larger than they are. Chin augmentation is a facial cosmetic surgery that restores balance by correcting the appearance of weak or receding chins. Dr. Karlinsky customizes every chin augmentation to her patient, allowing them to achieve a look in which they will feel comfortable and confident.
Am I a Candidate for Chin Augmentation?
Chin augmentation surgery helps women and men achieve a more balanced profile that is characterized by a stronger, more prominent chin. This surgery is beneficial for those who desire a permanent change to their jawline, instead of the temporary results offered with dermal fillers.
Candidates for chin augmentation do not smoke, are in good overall health, and have realistic expectations of their results. It will be required to avoid smoking and taking all blood-thinning medication and NSAIDs, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and some herbal supplements for at least two weeks before and after the procedure to avoid increasing complication risk.
While some patients choose chin augmentation as a standalone procedure, others decide to combine it with another facial surgery. This technique can be performed in conjunction with facelift surgery, mini-facelift surgery, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), and brow lift surgery.
Whether you are looking for a wider chin or one that protrudes further, chin augmentation at Westchester Cosmetic Surgical Arts may be right for you.
How Is Chin Augmentation Performed?
Chin augmentation is performed under local anesthesia in about one hour.
A small incision will be made underneath the chin through which the solid silicone implant will be inserted and permanently secured to the surrounding tissues and bone. These implants are available in various shapes and sizes to balance out faces with recessed or weak chins. The incision will then be closed with removable sutures.
This is an outpatient procedure, and patients will return home to recover shortly after their surgery.
Residual scarring generally heals well and can be covered with makeup.
What Is My Chin Augmentation Recovery Like?
Chin augmentation is an outpatient procedure; however, you will need to arrange for transport to and from the surgical center for your safety and comfort. It is very common to experience numbness in your chin area, but you will likely feel well enough to move around the evening of your chin augmentation. It would be best if you kept your head elevated while resting to help reduce swelling. Any discomfort can be alleviated with over-the-counter or prescribed pain medication.
Chin augmentation patients usually return to non-strenuous activities after one to two days but should avoid athletic exercise for at least two weeks (until your chin is fully healed). We recommend waiting to resume rigorous activity to ensure that the implant does not shift, and the swelling does not worsen. Most of the swelling will resolve within a few weeks.
Your board-certified cosmetic surgery at Westchester Cosmetic Surgical Arts will provide you with specific guidelines regarding sports and other activities during your consultation. Dr. Karlinsky provides her cell phone number to all of her patients in case she needs to be reached at any time for questions or concerns.
Complications after chin augmentation are rare; however, they may include bleeding, infection, implant shifting, and poor scarring. You should follow all of your surgeon’s recommendations before and after surgery to help prevent these complications.
What Results Can I Expect After Chin Augmentation?
You will begin to see the benefits of your chin augmentation immediately following your surgery, which will continue to improve and strengthen as the implant settles and the swelling subsides. Following your recovery period, you can enjoy the full benefits of your more defined and sculpted chin and jawline.
These results are expected to be permanent.
